In an exciting new interview, FundedNext sat down with renowned trader and professor Angelo Ciavarella to discuss his incredible journey through the financial markets.

Angelo, who began his trading career in December 1999, recalled his early successes and setbacks, including a major loss of €285,000 during the 2002 Nasdaq crash. Despite this early hardship, he persevered, ultimately achieving one of his most remarkable feats in 2003 by winning a prestigious trading competition.

Starting with €25,000 in capital, Angelo delivered an extraordinary performance, growing his account by nearly 1,000% within four months. His impressive achievement earned him first place and the grand prize: a brand-new Porsche, which, he humorously shared, he unfortunately crashed just six months later.

Throughout the interview, Angelo emphasized the importance of discipline in trading — a lesson he learned the hard way. “Before the competition, I knew what to do in theory but wasn’t following through in practice,” he admitted. “The competition taught me the discipline I lacked, and after that, my trading improved significantly.”

Angelo also discussed his trading style during the competition, highlighting the use of intraday trading, technical analysis, and a strategic method called anti-martingale — a system where positions are increased as profits rise. He was careful to point out the dangers of traditional martingale strategies, noting that “99% of accounts using martingale will be wiped out in the long run.”

Reflecting on today’s markets, Angelo stressed that successful trading requires constant adaptation. “Markets change all the time. What worked yesterday likely won’t work tomorrow. You must trade, adjust, and repeat.”

Now a university professor based in London, Angelo continues to share his knowledge with aspiring traders, combining his real-world experience with academic insight.

Closing Remarks

Angelo Ciavarella’s journey is a testament to the highs and lows that every trader faces, but it also proves that perseverance, discipline, and adaptability are key ingredients for long-term success. His experiences offer valuable lessons not just for traders but for anyone aiming to master a challenging craft.
